Today, it is possible to install a towbar on almost any hybrid or electric car. Exactly how much your car will be able to pull is determined by the manufacturer, because different models have different capabilities. The first thing to do is to check the vehicle’s data sheet or information on the website of the Department of Transportation.
There are some cars that do not have a towing capacity specified at all. Although such cars use a trailer, installing a special transportation towbar gives you the opportunity to place a bike mount or luggage box on the back of the car. The standard kit usually includes a removable hook and all necessary wiring for connection.
Important: An official inspection of your vehicle will show whether or not it can tow a trailer.
Keep in mind that even modern electric vehicles with good traction are not the best choice for carrying heavy loads all the time or traveling long distances with a trailer. Any extra weight increases energy consumption, and your car will travel less on a single charge. But despite this, a towbar greatly expands the capabilities of your electric car – you can carry loads when needed or install a bike mount and additional luggage rack.
